Harold,
Washing your hands regularly is a good strategy for staying healthy, whether you are handling the nicotine patch or not.

-- Contributed by: JC Redmondi have smoked for 30 years the patch really worked for me. my family is still in shock!
-- Contributed by: micheleI didn't mention.. the mild side effects that I got were not anything long lasting. I swear this worked really well. and I was a heavy smoker. I work from home so I smoked all day. Not just on lunch break.. good luck to u.
-- Contributed by: cindyI got a rash too at first, but I realized you have to switch arms..each day with the patch. Don't put it on the same spot or same arm each day and that rash was not harmful it also went away immediately.
-- Contributed by: cindyI used the nicoderm cq-I haven't smoked in 2 years now. I am 31. I gained 2 pounds but lost it within a year without trying to hard. Mild sideeffects but well worth it. I would strongly recomment this product

You did the right thing by discontinuing use of the patch. The patch can cause skin irritations and I would suggest that you get the brown spots looked at by a doctor who can tell you whether they are a cause for concern or not.

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondI have brown spots like a leopard on my sides...They don't itch but I have discontinued use of the patch. This after three days. Any idea how long this might take to clear up or how serious it may be?
-- Contributed by: VictoriaHi Kim,
You can use the patch for a full 24 hours if you like. After that point, you will need to change it. If you have cravings for a cigarette first thing in the morning, you can use the patch before bed.

The patch may not stick to your skin if you have recently used a lotion or cream in that area. You may want to try using some surgical tape to keep the patch in place.

Although the nicotine patch shouldn't cause a decrease in your sex drive, a loss of interest in sex is sometimes a side effect of the process of quitting smoking. Even though the patch contains nicotine, it still has fewer chemicals than your cigarettes. Therefore, you're bound to experience some withdrawal symptoms during the first few weeks of using the patch. However, if the problem doesnât resolve itself in about a month, you may want to make an appointment with your healthcare provider to rule out a more serious medical condition.

I have not been able to find any research that says the nicotine patch can make you miss a period, but I have found that changes in menstruation can be a potential side effect of smoking cessation pills. However, I would still suggest taking a pregnancy test or visiting your healthcare provider if you think you may be pregnant. -- Contributed by: DanahindersI am 26 and have been smoking for about 12 years. I have been using the patch now for nine days. I now have no intrest in sex. I have been married for nine years and never had a problem before. Does anyone know if this is a side effect of the nicotine? I am making my wife feel like crap because I am just not interested.
