Shelly:

FAS is not hereditary, so the baby has a good chance of being healthy. However, people with FAS have challenges that mean they may have trouble coping with the demands of raising a child. This link will provide you with more information:

Is there any risk to an unborn baby because his/her mother has FAS? If the adult with FAS does NOT drink, does the unborn baby have the same chance of being born healthy as a baby being born to an adult with out FAS?

Hi Jessica,

If you are a teen mom, you certainly have a lot on your plate. Wanting to stop drinking is the first step to changing your life for the better. Please contact Alcoholics Anonymous or ask your doctor for a referral to a counselor. With appropriate supports, you can stop drinking and make a better life for yourself and your child. You both deserve it.

Take care.
