-- Contributed by: JC RedmondI am on day 16 of taking Chantix and have been smoke free for 9 days. I can honestly say I am having no cravings and haven't even thought about picking a cigarette up. Aside from a few strange dreams I am not experienceing any other side effects. This medication is truly amazing and I only wish I had taken it sooner. Good luck to all of you who decide to or are quitting smoking!!
-- Contributed by: ChrisI have been taking Chantix for three weeks now, never did I think this would make me quit.I have now for 6 days been smoke free. Yes, sometimes my stomache gets a little queasy at first when i first take the pill, but usually goes away in about a half hour. Just make sure you eat first. Sleeping sometimes is a little difficult, but i take lunesta for that and it helps, and sometimes my dreams are real vivid but no nightmares. Right now I feel great and am very thankyou for this medicene. It really works, and i highly recommend. No other bad reactions.

I'm sorry that you had that experience with Chantix. Can you ask your doctor about other alternatives to help you quit smoking?

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondI took Chantix for 4 weeks, I was doing great, quit smoking on day 7 & didn't smoke the rest of the time I was on the medication. I had to stop the medication because I woke up one day with the worst depression, susidal thoughts & anxiety.I never had mental problems before I started Chantix, but I even ended up in the hospital due to the anxiety. I also have had & am still experiencing the "foggy" memory. And by the way, I'm back to smoking.
-- Contributed by: JenniI spoke with my doctor and he said that this is not an unusual side effect. Strange dreams can occur in the first few weeks. I am happy to finally be smoke free, it is a wonderful feeling. He said as long as I do not feel depressed or suicidal I can continue to take it. My inability to focus my thoughts are probably due to nicotine withdrawls.-- Contributed by: marty

If you have concerns about taking Chantix, please see your doctor right away. He or she can advise you about your situation.

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondI have been on Chantix for 9 days, I stopped smoking 3 days ago. I am not sure if it is will or meds. However I have to say I have been having disturbing dreams since I went to the incresed dosage at one week. I found that a family friend has been locked up in a psychiachtric ward for the last 30 days due to unusual behavior. She never had any problems prior to taking Chantix and is not on any other meds. This concerns me as last nights dream I borrowed a old friends car so I could drive it into a telephone pole. I woke up and went back to sleep only to have the same dream repeated. I am 39 years old and do not take any other meds. I am considering discontining this med. My thoughts seem "foggy", I wish I could describe it better than this. Not sure if its the med or nicotine withdrawl, I only smoked 5-8 cigerettes per day. Anyone else feeling strange??
-- Contributed by: martyI was on Chantix for 8 days. My hands had swelled up, my joints ached bad,I became very moody. I was still smoking while taking this drug but had cut back some. I DO NOT recommend this drug to anyone do more research on it before you take it. I stopped taking it and I feel like myself again.-- Contributed by: Judy

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondHi, I've smoked for almost 40 years, so it took about 5 weeks for me to completely stop, although after the first week I only smoked a max. of 5 a day. Now I'm on day 4 of being completely smoke-free. Chantix is definitely the best help available for quitting smoking! And the side effects haven't bee too bad for me. Constipation is the worst side effect I've experienced. Also, I can't take until a few hours after eating for the evening pill or else I feel very nauseated. Dreams are more vivid and for me - the dreams are mostly better than I used to have!

It's always a good idea to educate yourself about any medication that has been prescribed for you or that you are considering taking.

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondIf you are considering using Chanix, do your research. The FDA is considering an investigation, the UK has it under a watch, people are having terrible reactions including suicide, blackouts, and other serious psycological problems that sometimes don't start until they are off the drug and also in some cases don't seem to want to stop even after weeks of being off. This is one drug to be extra careful of.

I don't think any one method for quitting smoking will work for everyone, and you and your husband are proof of that. If you are still smoking, you may want to consider a different method to kick the habit.

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondMy husband and I both took chantix for 6 weeks with different reactions. My husband has never been depressed is a positive person. This medication completely changed him. He became very depressed and suffered extreme headaches. He did quit smoking for 3 weeks, however he stopped taking the medication. He is no longer depressed, his headaches are gone but he still smokes. I was able to cut down to a couple cigs a day, however the side effects of chantix were unbearable for me. My joints ached like I have never felt before. I felt like I was on speed and my thoughts were erratic and jumbled. It took about a week or so after I quit taking chantix before I started to feel normal again. It took my husband a bit longer. I think I will wait to try another pill until more research has been done into the long term effects.

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondI have been on Chantix since Dec. 7 and smoke free since the 13th of Dec. I have nothing but praises to sing about Chantix and yes I have epxerienced the side affects, Nausea, sleeplessness, dreams. I have just cut my pills in half and started taking 1/2 a pill in morning and at night, but I think I am going to cut out the night pill and see if I can rest better. I dont think I need it. ButI will go back on it if I have to. THE GREATEST DISCOVERY EVER FOR SMOKERS! I sing the praises of Chantix to anyone who will listen.

-- Contributed by: JC RedmondChantix EALLY works!!!!!! I am amazed, In my mid 40's, I have tried, to quit so many times, even wasting $200 with hypnosis! After the first blue pill, I had NO desire to smoke at all! I was shocked! I am now a non smoker of two months! Honestly, I did feel like crap the first month, the side effects are really harsh, but well worth the out come of being a non smoker. Buck, up roll with the side effects, drinking alcohol will make you feel worse, drink LOTS of fluids, water and fruit juices, take your multi vitamins, and try keeping your stress down. I tapered down my pills to half after 3 weeks, then I did not need them any more. I FEEL AMAZING! I HAVE SOOOO MUCH ENERGY NOW, I TRULY GRATEFUL! Bless you all in your quit journey. Blessings Mrs. A
