When you’re dealing with a disease such as alcoholism, knowledge is power. Understanding your condition gives you new insight into your behavior and helps you become an active participant in your own recovery. At LoveToKnow Recovery, our goal is to provide you with the information you need to eliminate problem drinking and begin a sober lifestyle.

Recognizing you have a problem with alcohol isn’t always easy. In fact, many alcoholics consider themselves to be social drinkers until concerned friends or family stage an intervention to force them to deal with the problem of alcohol abuse and seek the necessary treatment.

Many people who want to stop drinking enter alcohol rehab programs. In an outpatient, residential, or hospital setting, these alcoholism treatment programs and services help an alcoholic begin the recovery process.

One the initial alcoholism addiction treatment is completed, the recovering problem drinker may wish to join a support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous. Attending regular AA meetings helps the alcoholic remain committed to abstaining from alcohol. Alcoholics Anonymous is free to join and not associated with any religious or political organization.

Since alcoholism is a disease that affects the entire family, spouses, children, parents, and loved ones of the recovering problem drinker may want to join a support group such as Al-Anon. Al-Anon is based on the 12 Steps Of Alcoholics Anonymous and provides an opportunity for people to learn more about the challenges associated with supporting an alcoholic on the road to recovery.
